Why Vegan?

You may have noticed that this blog uses faux meats and cheese(commonly called cheese). This is because I’m a vegan!
I wasn’t raised as a vegan, counter to many people’s assumptions.

I went vegan in late 2009, which was during my senior year of high school. It wasn’t easy but became increasingly so with time.
Back then I only had access to Tofutti and Tofurkey on a limited basis. I ate a lot of Boca patties in those days because my mom loves to shop at Sam’s club. With the exception of the chick’n patties, I barely tolerated the original grillers. I enjoyed lots of soy milk back then as well.
These days, if I want a cruelty free alternative, I have a much larger selection, including Gardein, Tofurkey, Tofutti, Daiya, So Delicious, and Silk products, just to name a few.

Now, I, personally, won’t harp on my reasons for going vegan, but there are a number of sites and organizations that are great for people interested in finding out more.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
Mercy For Animals
In Defense of Animals
Compassion Over Killing
Farm Animal Rights Movement
Vegan Outreach

I’m going to note this now; while I feel that Peta has done a lot of good, they have a lot of tactics that I don’t approve of. They have sexist ad campaigns, have fat-shamed, and their shelter animal mission is incredibly lacking.
